Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. The hallmark of the disease is a progressive loss of memory function as well as other cognitive abilities, although people with the disease may also experience emotional disturbances such as depression or anxiety. Many people with Alzheimer’s disease eventually become dependent on others for help in performing even the most basic activities required for daily living such as bathing, getting around inside the home, and eating.
While current medications can alleviate some of the symptoms of the disease, there is no cure for the disease. The Roskamp Institute is dedicated to finding answers to the questions most relevant to caregivers and sufferers of Alzheimer’s and other disorders: What causes Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions? How can we treat these conditions? How can we possibly cure these debilitating diseases? As we search for the cure to these diseases, we are also committed to providing the best care in terms of diagnosis, treatment and support for patients and their caregivers.
We need your help to accomplish our goals, and we invite you to work with us in a number of ways so that we may bring an end to this devastating illness. Please call us at 941-256-8018 to learn more about how you can help.
The Roskamp Institute provides a full spectrum of services in the diagnosis and care of people with Alzheimer’s disease.
