Biography

Dr. Laila Abdullah, PhD, MS, is a neuroscientist with over 20 years of experience in translational research focused on the neurobiology of environmental exposures and neurodegenerative disease. She serves as a Scientist at the Roskamp Institute in Sarasota, Florida, and as a Research Biologist at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa. Dr. Abdullah’s work integrates epidemiology, molecular neuroscience, and mass spectrometry–based omics to investigate how toxic exposures and metabolic dysfunction contribute to neurological conditions such as Gulf War Illness, traumatic brain injury, and Alzheimer’s disease. Her research has identified lipid and bioenergetic pathway disturbances as key drivers of chronic neurological symptoms and has supported the development of targeted therapeutic strategies. Dr. Abdullah currently leads translational efforts advancing novel interventions from mechanistic discovery in experimental models to clinical evaluation in Veterans.
